The Louisiana Historical Association The Louisiana Historical Association is a dynamic group of diverse individuals who share a common interest in the history of the state of Louisiana. The LHA was founded on April 11, 1889 for the purpose of collecting and disseminating historical information on Louisiana, a goal which remains the primary mission of the association. The LHA has attracted both academics and non-academic members over the years and strives to maintain a even balance between the two groups. So whether you are a professional historian, a genealogist, a college student, or simply someone interested in our state's remarkable history, you are sure to find something of interest to you. The LHA's primary resource for sharing information on the history of the Pelican State is through the publication of the state historical journal, Louisiana History. Published quarterly, the journal began in 1960 and is consistently ranked as one of the top state-level historical journals in the country. Issues of the journal contain award-winning secondary articles, notes and documents of primary source material, book reviews, profiles of historical architecture, biographical sketches, and much more. The LHA also publishes a quarterly newsletter to keep members informed of historical events occurring around the state and to keep members abreast of their follow members' activities. The LHA also publishes a number of books related to Louisiana History, including: The Dictionary of Louisiana Biography; The Ten-Year Supplement to the Dictionary of Louisiana Biography; New Orleans in the Gilded Age, and The Louisiana Purchase and Its Peoples.
