Call for Papers

2022 Annual Meeting

Louisiana Historical Association – 64th Annual Meeting

March 17-19, 2022 – Baton Rouge, LA

The program committee invites sessions on any aspect of Louisiana history from any era, but is especially interested in panels that explore Louisiana’s diverse cultures. The committee is open to innovative session formats (e.g., roundtables, advance text sessions, film screenings) as well as traditional panels (three papers, plus a chair and commentator). The committee encourages diversity and inclusion with respect to the composition of panels. Graduate students, archivists, curators, public historians, K-12 teachers, and independent scholars are strongly encouraged to participate.

The committee prefers complete-panel proposals, including chair and commentator, but will consider individual paper proposals or sessions in need of chair and/or commentator. The program chair welcomes queries from session organizers.

Send proposals via email to:
Dr. Karen Leathem, Program Chair
Louisiana State Museum

2022 Program Committee Members
Dr. Keith Finley, Southeastern Louisiana University
Dr. Phebe Hayes, Iberia African American Historical Society
Dr. Brian Mitchell, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Dr. Daniel Usner, Vanderbilt University

Proposals should be submitted in a single Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF format file and include:

1. A cover sheet with the session title, as well as the names, affiliations, and email addresses of
all participants, including the chair and commentator.

2. A summary of the session as a whole, maximum 250 words.

3. An abstract for each presentation, maximum 250 words.

4. A brief C.V. (1–2 pages) for each participant.

5. Electronic equipment needs. Although projectors and screens will be available, there is no guarantee that these will perform optimally with presenters’ computers and PowerPoint/slide presentations. Moreover, access to projecting equipment is limited and may not actually be available to all who request it. Please plan to have your presentation on a computer or a thumb drive, as WIFI and online access to cloud-stored presentations are often fickle. Each session’s presenters should coordinate and put their presentations on one computer or flash drive to save time and minimize potential technical problems.

Deadline for submissions is Friday, October 1, 2021
